The Art Alcove

Located in the lobby of the Freeport Recreation Center, where 3,000 - 5,000 visitors walk through every month, our Art Alcove allows artists of all types to show their work for 1-2 months at a time. Check out both historical exhibits and upcoming ones below, and please support the artists who show in our gallery.

Marcia Odle-McNair

An artist, author, and educator, Marcia Odlee-McNail has exhibited work throughout NYC and across the US. Her artwork reflects a contemporary approach to present the interactions of colors, nature, and geometry in an abstract format.

Arti Grover

A long-term resident of Freeport, known to many of the community, Arti's carvings, sculpture, and figurative work is featured for the first time publicly at nearly 94 years old. Arti studied fine art at Syracuse, and after marrying Al Grover in 1953, she was involved in his business. She never stopped doing art, sculpting her family, friends, professional models, and using her imagination.

Jefte Valle

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Jefte Valle exhibited his watercolor art, which he discovered in retirement! His work, which has already been exhibited in art spaces in Brooklyn and Manhattan, shares his Puerto Rican heritage and youth in Brooklyn. He is an instructor as well. Jeffrey Herschenhous

Jeffrey Herschenhous is a Long Island-based wood sculptor. His sculptures reflect his appreciation of organic forms and a desire to reduce objects to their simplest formation.

Kim Taylor

Kim Taylor is a self-taught textile artist, Speech-Language Pathologist, and administrator at a local school for the Deaf. Her acclaimed story quilts have been on exhibit at the African American Museum in Hempstead New York, a local Mayor’s office and many other venues.

Anthony Barboza

Anthony Barboza is a world-renowned African American photographer and historian who is an equally gifted artist, painter and writer.
